Setup Canon Cameras for EliteID on Windows 11
Purpose:
This document will walk you through the process of setting up the Canon camera for EliteID
Requirements:
You will need to download and install the VDS Canon Camera Service found here:
.Net will also need to be downloaded and installed: and
Process:
Install the above .Net installer
Once .Net is installed you will need to unzip and install the VDS Canon Camera Service by running the Installer.msi file
After the camera service is installed ensure the service is running by going to Start and typing Services <enter>
Look for the VDS Canon Camera Service – Status should be “Running” - If not then you may need to start it manually
Log into EliteID and go to Administration → Settings → Photos → Enable Canon Camera
Service Port needs to be 5001 as defaulted
Plug the Canon Camera into the local USB port
Turn on the camera and make sure to select a compatible setting such as P or A+
Now when you try to take photos you should see an option to grab an image from the Canon Camera
You should see an option for your camera in the drop downSelect the camera and then Capture
From here you can edit the photo as you see fit.
Troubleshooting:
Error message when trying to install VDS Canon Camera Service:
Ensure you’re running the latest version of Windows 11 (Windows 10 or below is not supported)
Go to Windows Update by going to Start and type in Windows Update Settings → Check for Updates or if prompted a restart is needed then do so and come back here to check for updates until it says you’re up to date
Make sure you installed .Net as shown above under Requirements
Camera doesn’t appear in the drop down:
Make sure the USB cable is plugged in, there should be a dialogue box on the screen when the PC has detected the camera
If you don’t see this make sure the camera is compatible (see compatibility list:
Turn the camera off and then back on
Restart the VDS Canon Camera Service
Refresh EliteID in the browser
